Safeco’s custom drainage system consists of pipe, pea gravel, sand, and grass. A web of one-inch hose circulates hot water under the grass to promote its growth in time for Opening Day.
Constructed between 1997 and 1999, Safeco Field is one of the Puget Sound’s main attractions and a staple of the Seattle skyline. NWC is proud to have participated in its construction, providing the site work for the entire site. Our project scope consisted of foundation excavation, backfill, and site grading. One the most notable phases of the Safeco Field project is construction of the state-of-the-art field inside the stadium walls, featuring a specially designed drainage system and a blend of four kinds of bluegrass and two kinds of rye grass.
