Newcastle and SeaTac, WA

NWC was involved in the construction of two YMCA facilities and performed similar activities at each site: clearing and grubbing; site excavation; grading; aggregate placement; and utility installation, including off- and on-site water and sewer and an on-site storm system with a detention pond.

The Newcastle site presented unusual challenges, as it was built on coal tailings from the old Coal Creek Mine. A custom pile system, known as “heat anchors,” had to be used for the buildings. The anchors used 6-foot well casings as piling, augured into the ground at an average of 340 feet in length at 30 feet deep.

The NWC team dug into this opportunity to assist the YMCA in better serving the young people in the Newcastle and SeaTac areas, which now have access to various enrichment programs.
