The SR 9 roadway improvements will reduce the risk of congestion-related collisions, which increased from an average of 325 collisions per year between 1993 and 2000 to 450 by 2007.
Due to population growth in Snohomish County over the last 15 years, traffic volume on SR 9 has increased significantly. NWC is contracted with WSDOT to widen the highway and improve its intersections to help reduce congestion and improve safety and traffic flow. Currently under construction, SR 9 is being widened from a two-lane road to a four-lane divided highway starting at SR 524 north of Bothell and ending at 176th Street SE in Clearview. In addition to doubling the number of through lanes on SR 9, it will also provide additional turn lanes at the 180th Street SE intersection and add a raised median to separate on coming traffic. These improvements will improve driving conditions and safety on the highway.
