DESCRIPTION
Northwest Construction has been contracted as the subcontractor for the MUR-70 project, responsible for executing the excavation and installing utilities outside the building footprint. Our team is undertaking the excavation and removal of over 100,000 cubic yards of material from the site to prepare for the installation of the building foundation. Working closely with the general contractor, we’ve developed creative solutions to address overhead utility conflicts, ensuring the smooth progression of construction.
In addition to our excavation work, we are collaborating with other trades on-site to implement the shoring system and coordinate excavations for concrete footing pours. The removal of materials from the site is a crucial aspect of our responsibilities, aimed at maintaining the construction schedule. This is essential for timely concrete pours, allowing the building to progress into vertical construction. We are dedicated to contributing to the successful and timely completion of this project.
SCOPE OF WORK
Northwest Construction is tasked with excavating and removing over 100,000 cubic yards of material from the site, loading it onto trucks, and transporting it to approved dump sites to prepare for the pouring of foundations. Additionally, we are responsible for installing offsite storm, water, and sewer connections to integrate with the public utility systems for the City of Shoreline and City of Seattle, ensuring the building has necessary utility services.
One challenge we encountered involved overhead communication lines at our loadout zone near a busy road. Collaborating closely with the general contractor, we devised a creative solution to maintain construction momentum despite these overhead lines. Our team utilized the onsite footprint of the building for material loadout, ensuring the project schedule moved forward while waiting for the lines to be removed.
This project presents a unique aspect, with another building adjacent to our project site being constructed by the same general contractor. Furthermore, additional buildings are being installed in the surrounding area, leading to heavy construction traffic from various projects. Northwest Construction remains committed to overcoming challenges and contributing to the success of this distinctive project.
