Junior Accountant
General Summary
The Jr. Accountant is responsible for supporting the Senior Accountant and/or Controller by performing a wide variety of regular accounting activities necessary for the operation of our business and compliance with local and federal regulations. This position performs Accounts Receivable duties, including working with project managers to prepare project billings and providing administrative support necessary to the billing process. They will provide backup support for other accounting functions, i.e. accounts payable, audit support, document management and perform special projects as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepares and submits timely Billings/Pay Applications for assigned projects per the monthly schedule of values working with NWC Project Managers and clients to ensure prompt and accurate billings
- Enter and maintain project data in ERP (Spectrum) from project set up through close-out including tax rates, phase codes and other data
- Enter Project Change Orders to ensure timely billing and collection; may assist PMs with Extra Work Orders
- Process job cost adjustments, journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assists with reviewing of expenses
- Updates financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
- Prepares and submit weekly/monthly reports as assigned
- Assists Senior Accountant/Controller in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
- Prepares and analyze B&O monthly tax returns and reviews invoices for correct taxation
- Prepares fuel tax refund reports
- Assists with other accounting projects
- Assists in completing audits
Other Support Duties May Include:

- Assisting accounts payable, ensure timely payment of invoices, confirming validity of the debt and gathering appropriate signatures
Education & Experience
We are open to a variety of levels of experience and education; however, the ideal candidate will possess:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration and 1 to 2 years relevant construction accounting experience OR
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration and 3 years previous and progressive construction accounting experience
- Construction accounting experience preferred but not required
Competencies & Skills
- General Accounting/Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable/Job Costing
- Functional and technical knowledge and skilled in preparing, reviewing, and processing invoices, job cost adjustments, job billings, etc.
- Understanding of General Ledger and GAAP
- Understanding of WA state sales tax classifications and how to bill accordingly
- Highly analytical with the ability to problem solve
- Understands job costs and cost codes and their impact
- Solid understanding of the construction business is preferred – i.e. knowing the documentation necessary for entry and tracking; heavy civil construction experience a plus.

- Works closely with internal clients to obtain input and feedback to improve services

- Skills on Spectrum A/R, A/P and Job Cost Modules or other accounting/ construction management software a plus

Salary: $35.57 – $37.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
