Safety Engineer
General Summary
The Safety Engineer is responsible for providing key field and administrative support for NWC and its affiliated companies’ safety and risk management efforts. This position will be made up of approximately 40% administrative and 60% field related tasks. This position reports to our Safety Director and requires regional travel on an ongoing basis.
Basic Responsibilities:
Field/Shop Duties
- Will attend field pre-task planning sessions
- Will have a strong presence guiding Shop safety activities and ensuring Shop personnel is educated in NWC safety protocols and culture
- Assists in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through interface with all personnel and company units
- Conducts regular walk-through safety inspections of construction jobsites to determine compliance with company rules and regulations
- Helps conduct incident/accident investigations. Will coordinate with field supervisors and Safety Director on details collected as directed
- Is accessible and reliable to all field supervisors, project managers, organization, and clients
- Will provide equipment calibration under Safety Director guidance
- Highlights areas of improvement or concern and reports such matters directly to Safety Director
- Conducts regular inspections and ensures compliance with First Aid kits, Fire Extinguishers, SDS Sheets, posters etc. at jobsite, shop and office
Safety Administration Duties
- Schedule and prepare for monthly Safety Committee Meetings, Shop/field Meetings and Safety Conference Calls
- Order, maintain, and distribute safety inventory. Approval of safety invoicing for Accounts Payable
- Support the Safety Committee(s) by following and tracking monthly Action Items. Running necessary monthly reports and preparing monthly Power Point presentations. Handling Safety Committee elections on a bi-annual basis
- Assist in the development and updating of all safety policies and safety action plans
- Support Safety Director with design, customization, and distribution of site-specific safety plans
- Monitor and track, incidents, near misses, inspections, and daily field safety meetings on the HCSS platform. Make calls to field to review opportunities to improve
- Update HCSS and maintain all training records to ensure compliance and avoid expiration of necessary certifications
- Help field personnel troubleshoot HCSS Safety issues
- Provide daily safety topics to field through HCSS Safety as requested
- Provide safety assistance/advice to staff as necessary
- Follow up on disciplinary actions with field as instructed by Safety Director
- Complete necessary safety related projects as requested by Safety Director
- Attend AGC Safety Forums and Continuing Education Courses as requested
Additional Duties
- Support additional compliance efforts as required including environmental compliance, safe facility requirements, with local, state and federal regulations and programs, i.e. Puget Sound Clean Air Act & Agency
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as required to include job site deliveries of necessary materials

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety preferred, and 1 to 2 years of practical site construction experience as a Safety Engineer or 3 years or more of practical construction trade experience.
Compensation:
$78,000 – $82,000 based on experience
