Senior Project Engineer

The Senior Project Engineer will ensure the primary objectives (service, quality, safety, profitability, and schedule) for each project are met to the best extent possible by supporting project management in performing the following duties from pre-construction through “punch list”:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Preconstruction
- Maximize competitiveness of new construction projects
- Develop a thorough understanding of each project
- Support creditable interface with client, subcontractors, and consultants
- Effectively schedule all preconstruction activities
- Effectively track budgets
- Schedule subcontractors as directed for required activities
- Support creation of a completed project schedule and plan for implementation of project schedule
Project Management
- Develop strong planning skills through performing initial project set-up and maintenance of systems, quantity tracking logs, submittal tracking logs, shop drawings, as-built drawing updates, contract drawing updates, change order logs, TESC reporting, utility locate logs, invoice and receipt coding, project journals and Heavy Job
- Develop a thorough understanding of each project from start to finish including reading, understanding and retaining the design intent of the project plans and specifications
- Apply effective problem-solving skills, which are appropriately creative and innovative
- Support purchase and ensure that materials for construction are on site as directed and needed including sending and tracking requests for quotes and scheduling material deliveries
- Prepare accurate monthly cost reports, end of job cost reports and labor forecasts in a timely manner
- Draft documents for processing such as EWO’s, CO’s and invoices – in a timely manner
- Inspects work at sites for compliance with terms and specifications of contract
- Actively support the safety culture on each project through attending pre-task planning meetings and weekly safety meetings as well as performing site inspections with NWC field leadership and conducting regular audits of project safety documentation
- Promptly communicate issues to Project Manager including changed site conditions, revisions to contract drawings or other potential changes in scope of work; actively engage in finding the best solution (in terms of safety, cost, and schedule) for each issue
- Develop and demonstrate cost control skills
- Participate in project revenue forecasting with Project Manager
- Accept responsibility for certain Project Manager duties as assigned and mentored
- Develop and demonstrate timely and accurate close out activities
Administration
- Effectively utilize project management and estimating software
- Consistently meet deadlines and project commitments
- Demonstrate a customer service approach to project support
- Demonstrate professionalism in both written and verbal communication
- Support and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the project team
Marketing/Relationships
- Support PM’s in fostering outstanding customer service and positive client relationships
- Convey an image that supports Northwest Construction’s values
- Deliver effective presentations as requested and demonstrate effective meeting skills
Management/Leadership
- Operate with a goal to achieve a high level of independence
Job Requirements & Specifications:
- Computer: Strong computer skills, able to effectively utilize software programs such as: Microsoft Office, and Outlook. Able to learn and effectively use other in-house utilized software programs, i.e. Heavy Job, BlueBeam and MS Project.
- Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex plans, technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to support responses to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to clients and/or owner representatives.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Performs analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Reasoning Skills: Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and complex variables.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with associates and customers. Ability to put people at ease; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to be direct and diplomatic in dealing with others to achieve goals. Ability to demonstrate sincere interest in others and their concerns.

Compensation:
Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000
